The continuation of the development of 5G Internet technology was once impacted by the heating of trade disputes and between the United States and China. The US government has incorporated the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Huawei into the blacklist of products that could not enter the country.
Whereas Huawei is currently preparing 5G network services in several countries, one of them in Indonesia. The plan, this technology will be officially launched in 2020 during the Olympic celebrations in Japan. Huawei had been predicting 2.8 billion people adopting 5G technology in the upcoming 2025.
Fifth-generation Internet technology is relatively new to Indonesia considering that the latest network that is used today is still 4G (fourth generation). Huawei, Nokia, Samsung, and Verizon since a few years ago have begun to talk about the development of 5G this even when the new 4G is used.
Although it is not yet proven, 5G technology is believed to have many advantages, one of which data transfer speeds are 800 gigabytes per second (Gbps). The research on 4G is only capable of transferring data at 100 megabytes (MB) to 1 gigabyte (GB) per second.
With 5G speed, Internet users can download 33 movies with high definition (HD) quality in a matter of seconds. While on 4G phones, the download of HD quality movies can take six minutes. However, the initial experiments made by Ericsson still resulted in a 5 Gbps data transfer rate on the 15 Gigahertz (Ghz) frequency network.
“This will be a dramatic change and become the harmonization (use) spectrum (wave) radio, ” said Professor Rahim Tafazolli who quoted the BBC in 2014 then.
Tafazolli briefly led the center of 5G Innovation at the University of Surrey, England. The British government even funded the research of the recent technology. The radio waves in question are the medium of data delivery in 5G technology.
Another advantage is the lack of pause during the data transfer process (ultra low latency). In 4G technology, the number of pauses gained when data transfer reaches 50 milliseconds. While the 5G technology is claimed it only has a 1 millisecond lag number. Lack of delay will make the operation of high-tech gadgets such as virtual reality to low-unmanned vehicles.
Another difference is that 5G technology allows many advanced Internet-connected equipments at the same time. This allows the world to be more connected with the Internet. Some of the technologies that can be accessed are smart home appliances to vehicles.
